ePortaro Releases First ePortfolio Interoperability Specification

Herndon, Virginia, January 29, 2003 — ePortaro, Inc. today announced it has released to the public a draft specification to encourage ePortfolio application integration and interoperability. The ePortfolio Interoperability XML (EPIX) specification will allow disparate ePortfolio systems to speak a common language for discovery, integration, and synchronization without regard to implementation specific technology choices.

ePortfolios represent a new class of application that automate the functionality of personal information portfolios that are stored and accessed electronically using the Internet. ePortaro's ePortfolio solution, Folio by ePortaro™, is the first fully generalized, commercial ePortfolio application supporting the widest-range of ePortfolio uses in higher education and beyond.

The EPIX Specification is designed to leverage open Internet standards, including XML, SOAP, and HTTP to standardize the development of open ePortfolio system interfaces as well as to provide a roadmap for ePortfolio providers to build open, interoperable, standards-based applications.

"We are pleased to take the leadership role in defining open standards for this important application segment," said Joe Chalmers, ePortaro President. "Standards-based development helps all future users of ePortfolio applications, in addition to providing a sound starting point for our current clients."

ePortaro further announced its full support for the EPIX Specification in Folio by ePortaro™, the world's leading ePortfolio solution.

The EPIX Specification may be downloaded at www.eportaro.com and at www.epixspec.org.
